From My Mom....

Hey everyone, it's Maeby's mom. She is sleeping soundly right now and I didn't want to bother her, but I did want to let everyone know a few things.

Maeby had a vet visit this past weekend. She graduated from her puppy plan and now has all of her shots! We are excited about that. She weighed in at 22 lbs and she isn't even four months old yet! (She will turn four months on Thursday!)

I mentioned to the vet that Maeby tends to wake up in the middle of the night gagging and heaving quite often, but rarely throws up. We aren't sure exactly what this is or why it is happening, but we have some meds and antibiotics for her. The antibiotics are making her a Peeing Machine! We go out to use the bathroom about five times the normal times out. And sometimes (like four times yesterday) she can't hold it to the door and pees in the apartment. Woops. I'm trying to be ok with this because in the beginning it was my fought for not taking her out more and she is just a baby, she doesn't know better. Well, she does know better not to do that in the house, but the antibiotics must make her have to go so bad she risks getting in trouble just to relieve herself. Poor baby. I feel bad, I really do. So, that is were we are right now.

It's been rainy around here (we need it), but Maeby hasn't been able to run around outside and I can see her getting fed up with just playing in the house. So hopefully soon she will be able to take a break from peeing and write a post - until then, you all take care!

**And if any of you mommys and daddys have comments about antibiotics or the gagging, I would love to hear about it!

Mom wants to know if she does throw up what comes up. I used to do that when I was a puppy until mom started feeding me later at night. Closer to bedtime. Now that I'm bigger it isn't so bad.

Peanut's throwing up was almost always just yellowish watery stuff which after talking to a couple boxer breeders they told me was bile from an empty stomach. If I fed him later at night when he was a puppy like only a couple hours before bed then we didn't have the problem. Or even if I just gave him a small snack like a couple of dog biscuits he was fine. He couldn't really go more then 6 to 8 hours without food at Maeby's age. Now he can go 12 but if he goes over 12 he will throw up the bile. I would say feeding her a little later or giving her a snack wouldn't hurt to try and see if it helps. Though he almost always threw up something and not just gagged.
I know nothing about antibiotics and dogs though since lucky for us (knock on wood) neither of the dogs have had to take them for any reason.
Good luck I hope you get it figured out.

Poor Maebe. We're so sorry she's not feeling well. My experience is that Boxers will eat just about anything and it's possible she has eaten something that makes her heave. I would insist on xrays to see if there is anything stuck in her gut that she's trying to get rid of and can't. As for the peeing, could it be a coincidence that it started with the antibiotics? Is she still heaving at night? I'm thinking she could have a bladder infection that may have caused the heaving in the first place. Bladder infections can make a female feel sick all over. Also, some antibiotics can cause bladder infections. Try yogurt but check with the vet first.
Hope this helps... and we hope Maeby will feel better very soon.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Do you think she might be having some asthma problems? Just a guess after reading your description. My bad bad kitty sista Ginny, does that too every now & then. Maybe once or twice a day. She has some kind of asthma since the day she was picked up from the streets. Her asthma is not all the serious & she doesn't require any medication. She will just start having difficulties breathing & cough a little bit & then she'll be fine. She gets asthma especially when she's stressed up like when I give her a shock or make her mad, hee! I hope she's okay...

I did get that problem when I was younger. Vet said it could be due to hairballs (yes, doggies get that too), as he couldn't find anything wrong with me.

Maeby and mom,
Sorry this is so late, just read it though. Hope Maeby is fully cured by now.
We have had boxers for lotsa years and when they do that gagging and wretching at night, if nothing else is wrong with Maeby, it is probably an empty tummy. Peanut's mom got it real correct. Take part of Maeby's daily food allowance and save it for a late evening mini-meal. Our three boxers get theirs about 8PM. That gets them through the night with a small quantity of food on their tummy.
We have a new 12 week old pup and she just hit 23#....we were hoping for a cute petite little girl..ha! Write me: dmzapp@gmail.com and I'll send you a pic of her.
